A Simplex Health Success Story

Posted on August 22, 2019

Linda, a 58-year-old female, enlisted the help of Simplex Health to hopefully reduce her symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is a common disorder that affects the large intestine and causes symptoms like cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both. Clinical Director of Diabetes Prevention & Reversal, Stephanie Biggs RD LDN, began working with Linda in May 2019 to reduce Linda's symptoms and restore Linda's gut.

"Not only is it important to try and identify one's unique trigger foods, but it is also important to identify the root cause of someone's food sensitivities to work on resolution and healing. There are a number of reasons food sensitivities can occur from leaky gut to bacterial overgrowth in the intestines" says Stephanie. When Stephanie began developing Linda's personalized health plan, she knew the beginning of Linda's treatment required MRT Food Sensitivity Testing combined with Simplex Health's Gut Restoration Protocol.

Linda's diet before Simplex Health's intervention consisted of processed and inflammatory foods and high FODMAP foods, which are groups of carbs that are notorious for triggering digestive symptoms like bloating, gas, and stomach pain. Through MRT it was discovered that Linda was sensitive to soy, wheat, cow's milk, corn, egg yolk, shellfish, nightshades, apples, grapes, and blue dye.

Linda's individually tailored protocol focuses on more whole, nutrient-dense foods free from cow's milk, gluten, soy, and other identified trigger foods. "My symptoms have improved immensely," says Linda, since she began her custom health plan with the support and guidance of Stephanie. Linda now experiences life with less constipation, less bloating, and stomach pain.

Not only have Linda's IBS symptoms improved, but she has also experienced increased energy and reduced her "brain fog." Now that she is feeling better and experiencing less GI distress, she can enjoy going on bike rides with her daughter.

Stephanie is beyond excited for Linda's success and urges people to realize that gut health is important and achievable with the correct approach "There's certainly no one diet fits all approach when it comes to this [gut restoration] which is why it's important to work with a Simplex Health Registered Dietitian." Instead of running away from the disease, Linda is running towards health. She understands that overall gut health is a marathon and not a sprint, and she continues to work with her Simplex Health Registered Dietitian.
